Nel corso degli ultimi 10 anni, la tecnologia ha compiuto progressi sbalorditivi nell’ambito dell’intelligenza artificiale: basti pensare allo sviluppo dei diversi assistenti digitali.
“Alexa, dimmi una barzelletta”, “Cortana, cantami una canzone”, “Siri, come stai?”, domande buttate lì giusto per passare il tempo, senza aspettarsi nulla di straordinario.
Se invece foste interessati ad avere una conversazione più “umana” con un AI, dovete sapere che esistono sistemi creati per produrre un testo simile a quello di una persona in carne e ossa.
Noi abbiamo deciso di mettere alla prova la versione online del Generative Pre-Trained Transformer 3(GPT-3).Si tratta di un software di intelligenza artificiale prodotto e messo in commercio nel 2020 dalla società californiana OpenAI.
La capacità di GPT-3 di generare testi è tutta basata su un calcolo di probabilità e su delle reti neuronali artificiali. In pratica, è stato creato un grande database di testi sugli argomenti più disparati tratti da milioni di pagine web. Su questi testi il sistema ha imparato quali frasi o parole compaiono con maggiore frequenza dopo una data frase o parola, formando delle “reti” di espressioni ricorrenti.
Di seguito troverai i risultati dei nostri tentativi. Le frasi in grassetto sono le nostre prompts a partire dalle quali GPT-3 ha generato i testi. Non abbiamo modificato in alcun modo quanto prodotto dal sistema.
1. Ci siamo chieste se il sistema fosse in grado di riconoscere un testo famoso e di completarlo, ma l’AI preferisce fare di testa sua. Ha, poi, il brutto vizio di lasciare la narrazione incompleta proprio sul più bello. Riprendendo il celeberrimo incipit di Orgoglio e Pregiudizio, l’AI ha gettato le basi per uno sviluppo della trama…interessante.

Quello che emerge dalle nostre prove è la tendenza del sistema a generare testi con una sintassi piuttosto semplice, ma efficace. Bisogna dire, che, tuttavia, aumentando la lunghezza dei testi, aumenta anche la probabilità di incappare in eventuali errori o incongruenze.
Quindi, concludendo, possiamo dire che GPT-3 è ormai in grado di scrivere come noi?
Come la maggior parte di noi, forse sì. Ma, di certo, non è in grado di elaborare un testo come farebbe una mente umana: proprio per via del suo funzionamento, il sistema tende a scrivere “per frasi fatte” di cui non comprende il senso. Nonostante i risultati sorprendenti del sistema, le frasi e le espressioni più frequenti sul web sono ancora lontane anni luce dalla creatività di uno scrittore e dall’originalità che ne deriva.
